Linda Brunet has been Director General of Encounters with Canada since 1999. Under her leadership, and with the assistance of her 50-person staff, EWC has become Canada’s largest youth forum, dedicated to citizenship and leadership education for Canadian teens. More than 94,000 young people from across Canada have lived the Encounters with Canada experience, with an average of more than 3,000 students a year attending the week-long programs. Linda works hand-in-hand with all levels of government, corporations and local organizations to ensure high-quality, innovative programming and delivery. One of her proudest achievements is having opened up the program to better integrate Aboriginals, visible minorities, disabled and at-risk youth. For her devotion to Canadian youth and Canada overall, as well as her strong presence in the community, she is the recipient of many related awards. Her favourite Heritage Minute is about Agnes Macphail, a role model and advocate for women’s rights who was, like Linda, a tireless and passionate exponent on behalf of her chosen causes.
